We built a Farm
We are Paolo and Micaela and we decided to change our lives, leaving our previous jobs to build together this new company. From ancient historical documents from the fifteenth century we discovered that our lands were once one of the main areas for the cultivation of saffron, and it is from these texts that we started our adventure. We left jobs as an architect and bank manager for agriculture work and thanks to our love and passion we create healthy and wholesome products cultivated with commitment and daily care.
The farm Azienda Agricola Corda Paolo was founded in the beautiful hills of Monferrato Astigiano, thanks to the determination to bring back to Piedmont the traditional saffron spice.
The cultivation method we use is not organic or even biodynamic, we’d call it more a “good sense method”. The cultivation method we use is not organic or even biodynamic, we’d call it more a “good sense method.” Our company does not use any chemicals or herbicides, but it creates the best environments and living conditions for each type of plant. No preventive treatments are given, but only if necessary we use treatments allowed in organic farming. This choice was made to respect nature which in a “natural” way already gives us so many things to protect or improve our crops.
For saffron, for example, each year we prepare a plot of land cultivated with green manure, which means growing some herbaceous varieties that are cut and left to compost in the earth. In this way the land will be nurtured and fertilized in a healthy way and our saffron will find a lot of substance with which to grow.
All this care definitely makes ours a limited and non-intensive production, but it is a choice for quality that the end consumer understands perfectly without question.
My working life began as a young girl, from the insurance sector to banking, from the very bottom until becoming a bank manager. While I carried on in my career I also finished my studies with a degree in Economics and business management. Then into my life came Paul, who overwhelmed me with this new idea of living. The decision to leave everything behind was huge, but today I would do it all over again.
I graduated with honors in architecture and for a few years I worked in an office that dealt with renewable sources and green building, I was also an assistant to a professor in the faculty. But then my passion for the land made me leave that world to devote all my energies in developing my company. Today I feel fulfilled and happy with the choice I made, I am a happy farmer, husband and father.
